MAFTA is an acronym for the Milwaukee Alliance for Teaching Abstinence.
Founded in 2000, this alliance is a partnership among these Milwaukee area non-profit organizations: Best Men (Milwaukee Public Schools program), New Concept Self Development Center , Northcott Neighborhood House, and Rosalie Manor & Community Services.
This unique alliance empowers Milwaukee community youths to abstain from drugs, alcohol, gangs, violence, crime, and sexual activity until marriage. Through federal funding, this alliance has already served over 5,000 youths and parents through programs conducted in the Milwaukee schools, local churches and community centers. Each year offers new opportunities to reach out to more families and neighborhoods.
Every individual involved in bringing MAFTA’s services and support to our community is absolutely committed to the organization’s goals:
- Reduce the number of adolescents engaging in sexual activity.
- Reduce the incidence of out-of-wedlock pregnancies among adolescents.
- Reduce the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among adolescents.
The end result is a win-win for Milwaukee’s youth, their parents and our community as a whole:
Kids making better life choices and living healthier lives.
The “A Crying Shame” campaign is just one way MAFTA is reaching out to youths and parents about the negative and dangerous consequences of teen sex. The campaign’s primary message is “Abstinence – not having sex until marriage – IS the best choice.”
